James M. Dillon, Sr.

Mr. James M. Dillon, Sr. 95 of Kalamazoo.Passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2012 with family at his side. Jim was born April 13, 1917 in Paw Paw, the son of John and Mabel (Creagan) Dillon. He was a life underwriter with Prudential Insurance for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He graduated from WMU in 1939 and was a Veteran of the US Army Air Corps, serving during WW II. After his tour of duty, he remained very active in his community and his church as a member of St. Mary’s, and later St. Ambrose, singing in their choir. Since 1975, he was a Eucharistic minister, bringing Communion to the sick and visiting those who were homebound. He was a member of Borgess Pastoral Care, a member of Knights of Columbus Councils 9962 and 1616, and the St. Mary’s Men’s Club. Jim was a life member of the VFW Comstock Post 6252, and the American Legion Walter Miller Post 250 in Plainwell. On December 30, 1941, he married Lucille Schmitt, who preceded him in death. Also preceding were his son Joseph, grandson Ricky Tatro, and siblings Richard, Margaret Seavers, and Marianne McNeill. He is survived by his children J. Matt of Daytona, FL, Mary Tatro of Trenton, MI, Theresa Weiss of Reed City, MI, Bernard (Annette) of Galesburg, Jeanie (Douglas) Howk of Jacksonville, FL, Janette (Joseph) Rozankovich of Kalamazoo, MI, Colleen (Joel) Berger of San Jose, CA, Kevin (Gerry) of Portage, MI, Barbara (Jude) Daniels of Kalamazoo, MI, LuAnne (Jim) Justice of Parchment, MI, daughter-in-law Sheri Dillon of Kalamazoo; 23 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; sister Kay Ringer of Phoenix, AZ, numerous nieces and nephews, and special caregiver and friend, Jessica Timmons, who held a special place in his heart. Friends will be received Friday, November 23, 2012, from 4-8PM at Parchment Redmond Funeral Home, 2300 East G Ave., 269-349-7735. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 10AM at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Msgr. Robert Creagan, Celebrant. Interment follows in East Cooper Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes. The family wishes to thank Jim’s numerous home caregivers, along with Sue’s Loving Care, who provided him quality care, comfort, and support during his transition
