Theodore J.Ted “Papa” Novak, age 76 of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012 in the arms of his loving wife and family. Ted was born July 8, 1936 in Warren, MI. He was a Veteran of the US Army. He was a longtime member and former sub-district Director of the United Steelworkers of America. Ted had a quick wit, and was always ready to share a joke or a good story. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting, playing golf, and bowling, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Barbara Gave. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bonnie (Descant) Novak; children Karen (Ray) Telang of Birmingham, MI, Todd (Pam) Novak of Hickory Corners, MI, Susan (Ernie) DeRocco of Clinton Twp., MI, and Thomas (Lisa) Novak of Parchment, MI; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and sister Carolyn Osborne. Friends will be received Friday, November 23 from 10-11AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 939 Charlotte St., Kalamazoo, where a memorial service will immediately follow. A luncheon will be served in Fr. Bart Hall after services. Private inurnment with full military honors will be conducted at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI.
