Robert C. Malaney

October 20, 1925 — February 4, 2015

Robert C. Malaney of Portage, passed away peacefully February 4, 2015, surrounded by his family. Bob was born in Jackson, Mi on Oct. 20, 1925. He was the son of Peter and Ellen (Murphy) Malaney. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Navy. After growing up in Kalamazoo he married Barbara Scott. Business took them to several states before returning home to Portage for the last 48 years. Bob and his wife are members of St. Catherine of Sienna Church, Portage. He retired as a sales executive from Upjohn Healthcare Services in 1988. Bob was an avid golfer who spent as much time on the course as possible and where he made lifelong friendships. He shared his passion for the game in his book “Golf: A 60 Year Romance,” published in 2006. He and his wife were also diehard, daily cribbage players having had a perfect hand once or twice. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barb, and his three adoring children: Scott (Margaret) of Findlay, OH, Susan (Gary) Lange of Lake Oswego, OR and Sara (Jay) Leyden of Wayne, PA. Also 8 grandchildren: Bridget, Andrew, Maggie, Sara (Rory), Matthew, Katie, Jack and R. Connor Leyden. Also surviving are sister Marilyn Kirby of Portage and niece, Nancy. Friends will be received Saturday, February 7, 2015 at St. Catherine of Sienna Church beginning at 10 am, a rosary will be recited at 10:45 followed by a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11am.
