Jack Quentin Stahl

January 29, 1930 — October 25, 2015

Jack Quentin Stahl, age 85, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, died on Sunday, October 25, 2015. Jack was born in Saginaw, Michigan, the youngest of four children. He served in the Army during the Korean War, spending time in Korea and Japan. After returning from the military, Jack attended college in Wisconsin and resided in Flint, Michigan, before settling in Kalamazoo. Jack had varied interests and talents. Over the years, he was a salesman, real estate broker, carpenter, landscaper, and spent part of his later years as a building manager at a facility that provided independent housing for the mentally ill. In this last position, he won several awards for his contributions to mental health services in Kalamazoo. With an insatiable thirst for knowledge, Jack would while away the evening hours by reading Encyclopedia Britannica on the living room floor. His love of plants went back to his family’s nursery business in Saginaw, with a particular fascination with orchids. He enjoyed Asian art and architecture, and always wanted to travel to far off places. Jack is survived by his two daughters, Kaarin (Stahl) Lueck and Tracy Stahl. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ada (Nevard) Stahl and Otto Stahl; his brothers, Quentin Stahl and Leslie Stahl; and his sister, Hazel Stahl. Jack appreciated the friendship and support of his friends, including his former wife, Dorothy Stahl, the coffee gang at Hardings in Parchment, Michigan, and his caregivers at Park Place Assisted Living. A private celebration of Jack’s life will be held at a later date. A donation in Jack’s memory may be made to InterAct of Michigan, Inc., 610 S.
