Ardeth "Ardie" Ila Chambers

December 25, 1919 — January 5, 2016

Ardeth "Ardie" Ila Chambers of Kalamazoo passed away peacefully on January 5, 2016 following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was 96. Ardeth was the daughter of Lynn and Fern Gilman. After graduating from Kalamazoo Central High School in December 1938, she studied elementary education at Western State Teacher’s College (now Western Michigan University). While at Western, Ardeth was a member of the Student Art League. On June 6, 1942, she was united in marriage to Maurice “Mo” Chambers, the love of her life, who preceded her in death on January 24, 2012. Although Ardeth worked in several part-time and full-time jobs, she considered herself, first and foremost, a homemaker who loved spending time with family, traveling, and dancing with her husband, Mo. Surviving are two children, Darlene Chambers of Kalamazoo and Doug Chambers and his wife Dr. Elaine Phillips of Mattawan, 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A private family service will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southern Care Hospice, Rose Arbor Hospice Residence or the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements by Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S. Westnedge Ave. Kalamazoo, MI 49008 (269) 343-6156. www.redmondfuneralhomes.net
