George Allen MacKenzie

June 23, 1931 — August 12, 2016

George A. MacKenzie passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August 12, 2016. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 23, 1931 to Grant and Ethel (Powers) MacKenzie. George was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church for 59 years. He was employed in food service operations at WMU, KVCC and then retired from the Eaton Corporation in 1990. He volunteered and was on the board of directors for Loves & Fishes for over 14 years. He helped start and served as president for Eastwood Little League, he coached and umpired countless softball leagues. He was a member of St. Mary’s Men’s Club and former Knights of Columbus. George was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Mercedes Stafford; Brothers, Grant MacKenzie,Jr. Thomas MacKenzie. He was united in marriage on Sept. 23, 1950 in Paw Paw to the former Rosemary Tarnas who survives, also surviving are four sons, David MacKenzie of Santa Fe, NM, Dennis MacKenzie of San Francisco, CA, Roderick MacKenzie of Kalamazoo, Michael MacKenzie of Kalmamazoo; two daughters, Susan (Dave) Dornan of Kalamazoo, Mary (Tim) Dunham of Kalamazoo; brother, Don (Peg) MacKenzie of Coldwater; sister-in-law, Margie MacKenzie of Phoenix, AZ; son-in-law, Jeff Stafford of Madison, WI; seven grandchildren, Chris Dornan, Katie (Adam) Clarke, Jabe Stafford, Kimberly Dunham, Eric MacKenzie, Patrick Dunham, Paige MacKenzie; two great-grandchildren, Keegan and Riley Clarke; many nieces and nephews. Friends are being received 4-8 pm Friday August 19, 2016 at Parchment Redmond Funeral Home, 2300 East "G" Ave. Parchment, MI 49004 (269) 349-7735 where a Rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, followed by a luncheon at Fr. Bart Hall. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
