Eva Maria Chavez-Hughes

Eva Chavez-Hughes of Gobles passed away Friday September 2, 2016 at home. Eva was born October 26, 1966 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Roberto and Marta (Abete) Chavez and beloved daughter in law of Madeleine Hughes. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Society at Kalamazoo Valley Community College & Western Michigan University, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, home schooling and playing the game Magic with a group of friends at Fanfare in Kalamazoo. She was a devoted mother and a loving caregiver to her extended family. She also enjoyed walks on wooded trails and attending events at Kalamazoo’s nature center. On May 18th, 1996 in Kalamazoo Eva was united in marriage to Michael Hughes who survives. Also surviving is a son Sage Hughes of Gobles; daughter, Malita Hughes of Gobles; brother, Gerardo Chavez of Kalamazoo; half-brother, Bobby Moncada of Texas; step-sister, Liza Rios of Texas; brother in law, Matt Hughes of Macomb, IL; two nieces Jessica and Alicia. Friends and family will be received 5-8 pm Wednesday Sept. 7, 2016 at Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S. Westnedge Ave. Kalamazoo, MI 49008 (269) 343-6156 where services will be held 2 pm Thursday.
