Sara Katherine Gottlieb

Sara K. Gottlieb of Portage passed away Thursday October 6, 2016 at home. Sara was born July 20, 1934 in Three Rivers the daughter of Harold and Elizabeth (Swartwout) Underwood. She received her bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from Michigan State University and her PhD from The University of Michigan in Social Work. She was a member of the People’s Church in Kalamazoo and in 1994 was the recipient of the Kalamazoo Gazette Star Award, she enjoyed reading, traveling to Europe especially Ireland and was an avid golfer. On July 11, 1971 in Baltimore, MD Sara was united in marriage to Ellis J. Gottlieb who survives. Also surviving is a sister, Diane Gibson of Parkton, MD; step-son, Michael Gottlieb; step-daughter, Susan (Steve) Curtis; three step-grandchildren, Jessica Curtis, Adams Dressner and Annie Dressner; step-great-grandson, Henry; nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ron Underwood; step-daughter, Karen Dressner. Graveside services will be held 10:30 am Wednesday October 12, 2016 at Fort Custer National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, West Michigan Cancer Center or the People’s Church.
