Alfred J. Kowalik

Alfred J. Kowalik passed away peacefully Monday morning December 26, 2016.  Al was born in Brody-Duze, Poland on December 6, 1941 the son of Jan and Weronika (Lembryk) Kowalik.  The family immigrated to Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1949 where Al became a naturalized citizen on May 11, 1962.  He retired from General Motors in 1993 and soon found the perfect job delivering parts for Napa Auto. Al was a fan Notre Dame and the Detroit Red Wings, he later became a loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers. He was preceded in death by his brothers John and Chester and sister Halina Matej.  He is survived by the mother of his children, Maria and children Debbie, John, his sister Mary (Ted) Mak, his special friend Sarah Taylor, nieces and nephews:  Mitch (Kathleen) Matej, Ted Mak, Tony (Lauri) Mak, Alicia (Bernie) Ross, Bobby (Carolyn) Kowalik, Diane Mak, Tim Kowalik,  Mary Ann Matej (Ray Evans) and Stacy Kowalik (Delon Horton), great-nieces and nephews, one great-great niece and family in Canada and Poland.  Friends will be received at Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S. Westnedge Ave. Kalamazoo, MI 49008 (269) 343-6156 on Friday December 30, 2016, from 5pm until 8pm where the rosary will be recited at 7pm. Funeral mass will be held at 11am on Saturday December 31 at St. Catherine’s of Siena Catholic Church. Luncheon will immediately follow in the church hall. Burial will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery at 1:30pm. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of SW Michigan. www.redmondfuneralhomes.net
