Arthur W. Redmond, Jr. passed away February 1, 2008. Art was born an American Citizen in Windsor, Ontario, Canada on February 15, 1933 the son of Arthur W. and Lucile (Reva) Redmond, Sr. He was a member of St. Augustine Cathedral for many years and currently was a member at St. Monica Catholic Church. Art was involved in funeral service all his life. Home in Windsor was a funeral home. He was a Licensed Funeral Director for over 50 years. He followed his father who established Redmond Funeral Home in 1934 at 330 N. Westnedge. Art founded Parchment - Redmond Funeral Home in 1976. He then worked with his daughter beginning in 1981. In 2001, Redmond Funeral Homes was relocated to 4100 S. Westnedge with daughter Martha Redmond-Cox. Art was past president of the Cathedral Ushers Club, St. Augustine School Board, and the Kalamazoo Area Catholic School Board. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1616 3rd and 4th degrees. He had an avid thirst for hunting, fishing and golfing. Art was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Shirley Ferrara and niece, Loren Redmond. Art's most cherished gift was his family: wife, Barbara (Simonds) Redmond; three children, Bill and Kathy Redmond of Portage; Kathy and Joe Hayes of Coldwater; Martha and Bob Cox of Sherman Lake; seven grandchildren: Katie (Monte) McCollum; Kerry and Daniel Redmond, Scott, Greg and Jason Hayes and Grace Cox; siblings, Reva Redmond, Bob and Bonnie Redmond, Louis and Elaine Redmond, Irene and Joe Bennett and Thomas and Sue Redmond of Gobles; brothers-in-law: James and Mary Simonds and Bud Ferrara; sister-in-law: Betty Simonds, many nieces and nephew and special friends. Friends will be received Monday, February 4 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 until 8 PM at REDMOND FUNERAL HOME 4100 S. Westnedge 343-6156 where a Scripture Service will be held Monday at 7 PM. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated February 5, 2008 at St. Monica Catholic Church, Msgr. Michael Hazard celebrant. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be made to In House Hospice. Art's family wishes to extend deeply heartfelt love and appreciation to Dr. James and Mary Simonds Sr., who were a true support to all of us.
