Cindy Joann Pena

Cindy Joann Pena 67 of Portage passed away Wednesday April 12, 2023, surrounded by family, in Kalamazoo.  Cindy was born August 25, 1955 in Huntington, IN; the daughter of Larry and Nancy (Darland) Smith. She was a graduate of Ft. Wayne Community Schools Nursing Program and served the senior community as a home health nurse. Cindy was a member of Cornerstone Pentecostal Church and volunteer for Kalamazoo Jail Ministries, as well as Alternatives Crisis Pregnancy Center. On February 16, 1980 in Fairbanks, AK Cindy was united in marriage to Juan Pena who preceded her in death on August 17, 2020. Cindy served alongside Juan as a Gideon distributing scriptures. She  enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Also preceding Cindy in death is her father, Larry Smith. Surviving is her mother Nancy (Gene) Vickery, four children: Hannah Cox, Gabriel Pena, Joshua (Chelsea) Pena, Jacob (Brittany) Pena; two sisters, Jill (Dave) Campbell, Anita (Greg) Hughes; seven grandchildren, & several nieces & nephews.

Services will be at Cornerstone Pentecostal Church 1809 Romence Rd Portage, MI. Viewing is scheduled on Wednesday April 19th from 4:30 - 7:30 pm. A meal will be provided. Additional viewing will be held Thursday April 20th from 11 am - 12 pm. Funeral Service will begin at 12 pm.

A private interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International or Cornerstone Pentecostal Church. Arrangements by Redmond Funeral Home, Kalamazoo. www.redmondfuneralhomes.net
