David M. Ballingall 91 of Kalamazoo passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the age of 91. David was born on May 17, 1932 in Ann Arbor MI, the son of Robert and Christina (Shoalbraid) Ballingall of Scotland.  David served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 which included a tour on the USS Currituck.  On September 7, 1957 he was united in marriage to Laurel (Mattson) and moved to Kalamazoo to raise their family and pursue his passion of coaching and teaching. His love of sports provided the opportunity to coach at both the junior and high school levels for football, baseball, and basketball.   He was also instrumental in introducing slow pitch softball in the Kalamazoo Parks and Recreation.  David was highly regarded as a teacher and mentor, retiring in June 1990.  He enjoyed golfing in leagues with his wife Laurel and his friends, as well as the Northern Tour trips.  He volunteered for the golf association of Michigan by measuring and rating over 100 courses.  Additionally, he served with the Kalamazoo Golf Association Board of Governors for 15 years.  He was recognized for his role in the beautification of the local golf courses by adding hand-made blue bird houses and enjoyed maintaining them as he golfed.  He humbly accumulated 5 holes in one. David is proceeded in death by his parents, brother Robert, and wife Laurel. Survived by his three children, David Ballingall, Lesley Turner, Karen Ballingall; twin sister, Christina Ballingall; sister in-law, Kay Rastello; and nephew Michael Rastello. Friends will be received 4-7 pm Friday, March 22, 2024 at Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S. Westnedge Avenue. Private interment will take place on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Riverside Cemetery.
