Delores J. Sampsell

May 2, 1928 — October 2, 2021

Delores was born in Detroit on May 2, 1928, to Ward and Loretta (Enderich) Stone. As the eldest daughter, Delores doted on her 7 siblings and cherished the close bond they shared. The family moved from Detroit to Kalamazoo’s Milwood neighborhood, where the tree lined, shady street felt like a park to her. Later, the family purchased the grand home that eventually became the Beacon Club. After a move to Parkville and graduating high school, Delores met the love of her life, Charles Sampsell, while working at the Mendon Company. They were married in Vicksburg on June 15, 1949, and shared 59 1/2 memory making years together until Charles’ passing in September 2008. They raised their 4 children in their beloved Standish Street home, and enjoyed spending time at their cottage at Portage Lake. Delores was an exceptionally kind, loving, selfless, caring, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, neighbor and friend. She raised beautiful flower gardens bordered with rocks she and Charles found around Portage Lake. Delores loved preparing meals, sewing, crafting, spoiling her grandkids, decorating and hosting her family for the holidays. She called her family her greatest gifts in life and filled the home with love, laughter and treasured memories. Delores passed away Saturday October 2, 2021 at Brookdale of Portage. Proceeding her in death were brothers Ralph and Richard Stone, sister Gladys Boucher. Delores leaves behind her beloved children and their spouses; Philip(Gail)Sampsell of Vicksburg, Leann(Mark) Henline of Kalamazoo, Jason(LaDonna)Sampsell of Arlington, TX, Lisa(KC)Hunt of Portage; Brother Fred(Jeannine)Stone of South Haven, sisters Helen(Ken)Huckendubler of Portage, Phyllis Stanard of Richmond, VA, Patricia Lewis of Vicksburg; eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Private family services were held at Redmond Funeral Home, Kalamazoo. Final internment, Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice Care of Southwest MI or the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. www.redmondfuneralhomes.net
