Fran Reidy was born in Wyandotte, Michigan in 1929. He played varsity basketball at WMU and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1951. He was a medic in the U.S. Army until 1953 and then earned a master’s degree in education from WMU. He then settled in Kalamazoo and had a wonderful life. He taught high school and junior high in Kalamazoo for 35 years. He had wonderful students and he had a positive impact on thousands of Kalamazoo students who remember him as a wonderful mentor and educator. He worked as pool director at the Kalamazoo Country Club where he taught hundreds to swim during 22 summers at the KCC. He was an official at WMU running the game clock for basketball and football games for nearly 30 years. He is preceded in death by his siblings – John, Loretta, Lillian, Rosemary and Dorothy. He is survived by his 4 children – Sherril Sherman, Kenneth Reidy, Elizabeth Reidy and David Reidy as well as 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and very many nieces and nephews. He is appreciated by his very many great friends throughout his life and will be greatly missed. Friends will be received 4-7 pm Wednesday February 28, 2024 at Redmond Funeral Home, Kalamazoo. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will be at Noon in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
