Gary Paul Richter

Gary P. Richter 71 of Portage passed away Sunday March 19, 2023 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Gary was born October 11, 1951 in Kalamazoo the son of Russ and June (Psalmonds) Hayward. He retired from the security department at Heritage Assisted Living. Gary enjoyed reading, bowling, fishing and spending time with his family. On October 14, 1972 in Kalamazoo Gary was united in marriage to the former Jeanne F. Key who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Carrie (Rob) Bradshaw, Kami (Tom Hammond) Richter; Kelli Frazier; two brothers, Charles Richter, Russ (Angie) Hayward; three sisters, Diane Drobny, Pam Knapp, Anna Hayward; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, about to be 7 who were very special to him. He also had a very special bond with his great-granddaughter who he liked to call “Smiley Riley”; several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russ and June Hayward; brother, Jerry Richter. Friends are being received 11 am – 1 pm Friday March 24, 2023 at Redmond Funeral Home, Kalamazoo where services will follow at 1 pm.
