Gordon A. Burkett, Sr.

Gordon A. Burkett, Sr. of Kalamazoo went to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday August 12, 2017 at Medilodge of Portage. Gordon was born August 13, 1924 in Kalamazoo the son of Mahlon and Frances (Hulbert) Burkett. He was a WW II veteran serving in the U.S. Army as the head of 8 fire departments located in Hawaii. Gordon was a member of Cross Community Church of the Nazarene; he enjoyed his family, working at Allied paper company until retirement, fishing and going to car shows with his son Edward. On October 1, 1949 in Oshtemo Gordon was united in marriage to the former Anna Clugston, who preceded him in death on October 24, 2013. Also preceding him in death was a daughter Patricia Meadows in 2015; a grandson, Ben Burkett in 2009 and two sisters, Betty DeCault and Violet Richards. Surviving are three children, Gordon (Minnie) Burkett, Dianna (James) DeVisser, Edward Burkett; one son-in-law Thomas Meadows; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren. Friends will be received 6-8 pm Monday, August 14, 2017 at Redmond Funeral Home, Kalamazoo where services will be held 1 pm Tuesday. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Shalom Inc.
