Lawrence Eugene Smith Jr.

Lawrence “Larry” Eugene Smith Jr., 85 of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away on August 14, 2020 in his home. Larry was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Lawrence Smith Sr. and Margaret Smith on June 18, 1935. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Colorado and served in the Navy. He was united in marriage to Gretchen Smith on June 20, 1959 in Dixon, Illinois. He worked as a Vice President of Corporate Mortgage Lending for Boatmen’s National Bank. He was an avid sailor and snow skier and enjoyed sharing these loves with his family. Larry has enjoyed worshipping with the community of St. Mary’s Catholic Church these last years. Larry is survived by his children: Sarah (Jonathan) Van Oss of Three Rivers, Lisa Smith of Kalamazoo; three grandchildren: Elizabeth (Joseph) Brandonisio, Laura, Katherine; two great-grandchildren: Gabriel, and Nora. He is preceded in death by his wife Gretchen Smith, his brother Wayland Patrick Smith, and his sister Marilyn Woodworth. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Wednesday August 19, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. with Reverend Father James Richardson officiating. Redmond Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements. An outdoor informal Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 5, 3:00 at the home of Jon and Sarah Van Oss in Corey Lake, Michigan.
