Louise Anne Hoffman

Passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Upjohn Nursing Home in Kalamazoo. Louise was born September 19, 1937 in Monroe, Michigan to Victor and Aurelia (Steiner) Weipert. She graduated from St. Mary Academy (Monroe) in 1954, and earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Marygrove College in 1958. On September 27, 1958 in Monroe, Louise was united in marriage to Marvin Hoffman who survives. Throughout her life, Louise worked as a registered childcare provider, piano teacher, YMCA swimming instructor / lifeguard, and lay leader for the NCCW Migrant Ministry for the Archdiocese of Detroit. She enjoyed music, knitting, reading, camping, swimming, playing classical piano and the church organ. Louise devoted her life to helping others, organizing and leading the Migrant Ministry program in the Kalamazoo Diocese, St. Monica Parish Council, Kalamazoo FISH program, Girl and Boy Scout troops, playing piano in nursing homes and adult daycare centers; she was awarded the St. George Emblem (Bishop’s recognition for outstanding service to spiritual development of Catholic youth in Boy Scouts). Also surviving are six children: Thomas (Karen) Hoffman of Hastings, Mark (Mary Sue) Hoffman of Kalamazoo, Kathryn (Stephan) Szewczuk of Ann Arbor, John (Anne) Hoffman of Kalamazoo, Patricia (Eric) Towler of Pennsylvania, David (Laura) Hoffman of Kalamazoo; 12 grandchildren; siblings, Victor (Elaine) Weipert, Jr, Kathleen Weipert, Mary Weipert, Debra Weipert, Michael (Joyce) Weipert, Michele (David) Weipert-Winter; dear friend Barbara Hyden; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Monday, February 12, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kalamazoo. Cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church, Congregation of St. Joseph (www.csjoseph.org), Salvation Army, or Hospice of Southwest Michigan.
