Samuel Salvador Barone, 95, of Portage, MI, passed away Monday, April 22, 2024 at Alamo Cove Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Samuel was born April 21, 1929 in Kalamazoo the son of Paul F. Barone and Marion (Dugo) Barone.

He graduated from St. Augustine High School and was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.  He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War. Samuel was the first child in his family born in America from Sicily and he enjoyed being a handyman and building model airplanes. Samuel also enjoyed fishing, hunting, swimming, puzzles, traveling all around the United States with his wife Norma in their RV and especially enjoyed dancing.

Samuel was united in marriage to Rosemary Chadderson who preceded him in death and then to Norma Jean Vaughn Barone who preceded him in death. Also preceding him were two sons, John Vaughn and Ron Vaughn; four sisters, Grace Makela, Agatha Barone, Nesessia Crotty, Mary Deters; two brothers, Vince Barone, Frank Barone. Surviving are his five children, Steven (Linda) Barone, Rebecca Barone, Gary (Kit) Vaughn, Barbara (Mike) Ashby, Patricia (Steve) Schmidt. sister, Laura Hoogerheide; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews; special friends, Betty Sugas and daughters; and the coffee boys. The family would like to thank the original family and the staff of Alamo Nursing Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, American Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association. 
A memorial service with military honors will be held 2 pm Saturday May 4, 2024 at Dutton Cemetery in Mendon, MI. Arrangements by Redmond Funeral Home, Kalamazoo.
