Susan Brocato 86 of Portage passed away Sunday October 16, 2022 at Rose Arbor Hospice. Susan was born February 10, 1936 in Monroe the daughter of Raymond and Winifred (Evans) Saum. She was a graduate of Western Michigan University receiving her bachelor’s degree in education in 1958. She taught at the Michigan School for the Deaf, St. Monica’s School, South Junior High School and Loy Norrix High School. Susan was a member of Kalamazoo Education Association, Michigan Educational Association and a Life Member of National Education Association. She enjoyed antiques and gardening. On June 17, 1961 in Kalamazoo Susan was united in marriage to Don Gene Brocato who preceded her in death on March 9, 2017. Also preceding her in death are children; Joseph Brocato, Sally Castleberry; two sisters, Marianne McKenzie, Winifred Schober. Surviving are a daughter, Catherine (Ross) Dristy; four grandchildren, Katie (Steven) Dristy-Williams, Kristina Dristy, Joe (Liz) Castleberry, Jimmy Castleberry; great-granddaughter, Winnie Castleberry; several nieces & nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 11 AM Monday October 24, 2022 at St. Monica Catholic Church. Interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Rose Arbor Hospice. Arrangement by Redmond Funeral Home, Kalamazoo. www.redmondfuneralhomes.net
