James Francis Stokes

James F. Stokes of Portage passed away Tuesday July 30, 2019 at Ascension Borgess Hospital. James was born August 12, 1945 in Muskegon the son of Donald and Rose (Dalton) Stokes. He enjoyed music, motorcycles and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. James worked as a Journeyman Millwright for General motors and then retired as a barber. On July 9, 1966 in Germask, MI James was united in marriage to the former Theresa Ruthven who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Molly (Brian) Davie of Sault Ste. Marie, Suzanna Burgess of Portage; two grandsons, Joseph and Jakob; two brothers, Donald Stokes of Texas, Harold (Randy) Stokes of Newberry; four sisters, Shirley Jenkins of Canada, Emma Jean (Leon) Bowerman of Weidman, Lilly Snear of Florida, Barb (Hermit)  several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson Trevor. A memorial service will be held 10:30 am Monday August 5, 2019 at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Kairos Dwelling.
